How people ignore the declarations made by Politicians? and how it effects India?

In India, elections are treated as a festival. Many people stand for election, but only one person gets a seat. Before contesting an election, specific formalities are followed and declarations are made by the candidates. India is a country whose population is primarily made up of young people. Even though the literacy rate in India is improving, Indians still struggle to understand electoral data. It's also an area of Indian interest that is usually ignored. And this in-turn affects the democracy in India.

The Background

When General Elections were held in 1951-52, India has never been so fortunate since its independence. It was the election of the world's biggest democracy. People could choose their leaders by casting votes and giving them the authority to speak in society on their behalf. They were called POLITICIANS.

A politician is a man or woman who step up and addresses the needs of his people, develop his constituency, and assists the government in reaching every single person in the country. People knew who their leaders were after independence. Some had fought with them throughout the freedom struggle, while others had adored them.  That was old trend.

With the passage of time, fresh shoots emerged from the system. People began to view leadership as a profession at that time. The population was enormous, and the competition was fierce. It's becoming increasingly difficult to find a real politician who is only concerned with the welfare of his constituents.

The Need

From the INA treasure chest disappearance scandal in 1947 to the Vazegate Scandal in 2021, Big Named Leaders have been accused. And, more exactly, none of this would have happened without their involvement.

In India, specifically, corruption and power are two sides of the same coin. In 2020, India is ranked 86th out of 180 countries in the Corruption Perception Index, with a score of 40. The public's money and freedom have been plundered. On many occasions, the ease of life and standards have been harmed as a result of society's famous personalities. Everything is determined by power. Because the government is managed by those in power.

Our Government

India is a country with 28 states and 8 union territories. It's diverse, yet upholds unity. It has been ruled centrally with the Prime Minister and his minister and state-wise with the Chief Minister and his ministers of the state. The state of Karnataka is one such state with both Legislative council and assembly.

Karnataka is India's sixth-largest state, with a population of 6.11 million people. The Vidhana Sabha has 224 members who are chosen every five years once. Politicians in Karnataka are chosen often. Despite the expansion of major cities, villages and parts of the state have been overlooked. Every government's preference list is always seen lingering around southern districts. Every election, every party's agenda involves eliminating this biasness, but it's not seen to work in practice.

What's Actually Happening

So, where are these people's voices? Where are their assurances that they had committed? All such questions are always met with a resounding “NOs.” People are duped during the election season when they are enticed to vote so that he or she may control them for the following five years. You have to admire their agenda to attract people. The rationale revolves around a single idea. RETURN ON INVESTMENT.  The first four months are spent investing sweat, money, and sometimes blood, and the next five years are spent looting the public.

It's not the story of every politician, but most of them. Every official statement made by politicians is explained by the data displayed on myneta.info. And the data presented should serve as a wake-up call to all citizens who vote for them. Before voting, it is a prerequisite duty for every citizen to know for whom they are going to cast their vote. It's a necessity today because you're handing over your threads to a man who will control you for the next few years.

Disclaimer
In the 2018 Karnataka State Assembly elections, there were 2583 candidates racing for 224 seats. Only 221 individuals won (the other 3 were scheduled for byelection). To run for election, one must first file a nomination and then declare their assets and other relevant information, as required by the Indian Constitution. The information you'll find on this page is entirely based on the candidate's own declaration. And who knows, maybe there are some details that aren't declared

The Pie chart shows the three main declarations:

Out of 221 elected candidates,

Winners with declared criminal cases = 77 (35 %)

Crorepati winners = 215 (97%)

Winners who are graduate or above = 135 (61%)

Criminal Cases :

Criminal cases are judicial proceedings in which a person accused of doing or omitting an act against the community or state is tried and found either not guilty or guilty and sentenced. The number of criminal prosecutions filed against candidates is likewise significant. People are unconcerned with this information since they may not be able to comprehend the implications in general. Data suggests that voters don’t mind electing candidates who are facing criminal cases.

At the moment, a candidate has disclosed the most criminal charges (16). At least one criminal charge has been brought against 77 (35%) of the candidates, and guess what? They're all in charge now. All of this is because these candidates take advantage of the slower legal system.

Money :

When it comes to money, the statistics plainly show politicians squandering public funds. It's hard to decipher that plundering continues even when there are educated, knowledgeable men in power

Corruption

Karnataka State Assembly candidate with the highest disclosed total asset value is Rs.1015 crores, followed by 840 crores. Total Asset Value does not imply that the money is looted or corrupt. However, it is the candidate's net wealth, which includes income from a variety of sources in addition to his duties as People's Representative.

It's also worth noting that several of the re-elected candidates' wealth has skyrocketed over the years

Education Background :

When it comes to education, there are many different types to choose between. You can't assess a guy merely on the basis of his academic qualifications. His knowledge and experience in the field become equally valuable.

However, statistics reveal that 96 percent of the elected are literate.

5th Pass = 5 candidates ( ~3% )

8th Pass = 10 candidates ( ~5%)

Metric Pass = 47 candidates ( ~18%)

PUC Pass = 34 candidates ( ~16%)

Graduated & above = 118 candidates ( ~54%)

Others = 7 candidates ( ~4% )

What Should a Citizen Do ?

Keep Your Eye Open while voting
Keep Your Eye Open

A citizen is the pillar in the ecosystem of democracy, which means he decides who should run a village, town, state or even a nation. But he equally has to see that the candidates that he chooses or votes has a strong commitment towards the nation. So No more Blind Voting.

But such blind judgements are still made in India. The blind spots are,

1. Biased - Biased on community, caste, religion etc.

2. due to Lack of Knowledge, information - being illiterate or avoiding facing the truth or facts

3. due to Blind Following Culture - like a movement, people blindly follow a person or a group and always supports them whether right or wrong

4. due to Lack of Intertest - certain people lose interest rather than trying to fixing the system.

Understanding what is good for longer term is important rather than adjusting for short term good. A single vote makes a difference.

Choosing the wise is nothing but choosing better future for you, your family and nation.

Disclaimer: The primary source for the data used for these reports is the sworn affidavits provided by the candidates themselves that are displayed in myneta.info. Sheer volume of data that has to be read from the affidavits that are often poorly scanned and the lightning speed at which these reports have to be brought out makes it quite difficult to ensure accuracy of every bit of data. In case of any discrepancy in our reports vis a vis the original affidavit of any candidate, the original affidavit should be considered accurate. If you notice any discrepancies between affidavit and our report kindly let us know and we will fix them on our end as soon as possible.
